Over 40 Friends and their guests attended a Private View of the Whistler Pastels Exhibition at the Hunterian Art Gallery on Monday 27th January. We were given a very enjoyable and informative guided tour by Patricia de Montfort, Senior Lecturer in Art History and Principle Investigator on the Whistler Pastel Project. During her introduction, she explained that the exhibition was based on the Research Project by PhD student, Tess Visser, whose work she supervised. It was wonderful to hear and see all the different stages and the use of technology, needed to analyse the delicate pastel studies created by Whistler. IAll this information helped us to understand the techniques and materials used to make such beautiful examples of Whistler’s artworks. Many thanks to Patricia and all the staff at the Hunterian for making our visit to this special exhibition so memorable and enjoyable.
