A group of twenty Friends visited the Mackintosh Tearoom on Sauchiehall St on Tuesday, 21st April, the second of two FoGM groups to do so. The tour began outside with our very knowledgeable guide, Oliver, showing us photos of what the building and area looked like in 1903 when the tearooms first opened. We then went inside and heard about the design and decoration of the interior before going upstairs to the Salon de Luxe, about which volunteer guide, Chloe, provided very informative insights. This was followed by tea, coffee and cakes in the tearooms, then we went to the Learning Room to try our hand at stencilling. Judging by the laughter and chatter during this session, everyone enjoyed it enormously, even if it was not quite as easy as some of us had imagined! Before leaving we had access to the exhibition area where we were able to learn more about Miss Cranston, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the history of the building. All in all it was a most enjoyable morning. Thanks go to Oliver, Chloe and the staff who could not have been more helpful.
