Since 1944 FoGM has existed to foster an interest in the collections and activities of the art galleries and museums in Glasgow, and Friends of Glasgow Museums were delighted to support the publication of ?Coming Into View: Eric Watt?s Photographs of Glasgow?, which had its official book launch this morning at Kelvingrove.
Eric Watt?s wonderful photographic archive, so generously gifted to the city after Eric?s death by his brother Graeme, represents a particular kind of vision, that of the citizen artist. The images in the book display not only great technical skill, but also portray Glasgow and Glaswegians with honesty, spontaneity and vibrancy. Eric Watt?s photographs are embedded in their place and time, finding humour and unnoticed beauty in his subjects? everyday lives and surroundings.
