Friends of Glasgow Museums – Walking Tour of the Glasgow Necropolis

On a glorious Spring afternoon Friends congregated at the gates of Glasgow?s Necropolis and were led on a fascinating walking tour by Margaret Anderson. Among the many grand memorials to the prominent, powerful and wealthy citizens of Glasgow, we also saw touching and beautiful stones, plaques and statues telling stories of achievement, philanthropy, courage and love in all walks of life.

We followed the path through the gardens, where among many other sights we passed the Jewish Cemetery, several firefighters? memorials, and a stone to the beloved ?Queen of the Gypsies?, then onwards to the top of the Necropolis, with its panoramic vista and crystal-clear views of distant hills beyond the city, then wended our way back down the hill, rounding off the trip with a delicious afternoon tea at the Little Royal Caf‚.

Many thanks to Margaret Anderson for guiding us through this treasure trove of history in the heart of the Dear Green Place.
