Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has one of the finest collections in the country. Among its many splendid artefacts are works of art created by some very talented and notable women artists such as Rachel Ruysch, Mary Cassatt, Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh, Jessie M King, Bessie McNicol and Joan Eardley. Some of these artists lived and worked in Glasgow but others lived and worked further afield. What is common to all is that they created remarkable and striking works of art of international significance. This talk will give a brief history of the founding of Kelvingrove and its collections before focussing on these women and the works of art on display that they created.
